    Boston Cream Pie

For quite some time I have wondered why Boston cream pies were called pies, and why are they famous. With some help from google I was able to dig up some information. Boston cream pies originated at the Omni Parker Hotel in Boston, Ma and were originally called chocolate cream pies. The cakes became so popular that Betty Crocker cake mixes were created in the same fashion.  During the Mid 1800’s pudding was popular and chocolate was seldom used. The creator of this dessert; Chef M. Sanzian took pastry cream (similar to pudding) between layers of vanilla cake and topped it with a chocolate frosting creating an innovative dessert which…

Chicken Soup Soothes the Soul, and Cures the Flu

This week was pretty busy at work, and I only had one day off. On my one day off I was lucky enough to get up early, and take my little brother to the doctors because he had the Flu.  After it was confirmed that he actually had the flu I sent him to bed with lots of fluids, and things to keep him occupied.  He told me that he was hungry, and wanted soup for lunch, But he doesn’t like soup from a can… how spoiled can a 16 year old get. Lucky enough for him I know how to make homemade soup. Homemade Soup 4oz butter celery  chopped…

    Chocolate Cake For A Friend

The other day my dad asked me to go to a family friend’s house because he needed help heating up his dinner. My dad also said make sure you pick up a piece of cake for him; you know how he has a sweet tooth! My first thought was why I would buy cake, when I could just as easily make one; so that’s what I did. I used my favorite chocolate cake recipe, and then I started thinking about garnishes as well as toppings. I made cranberry lime compote, a lime sauce, and a candied lime chip for some added color. Chocolate cake 2 cups sugar 1-3/4 cups all-purpose…

    In No Time Things Change

So, remember how two posts I was kind of sort of complaining about my new job? Well over night I went from salad prep girl to banquet events dessert girl, which I am actually excited about. I am still learning the ins and outs as well as my true role in this position. But on my first night I was left alone to serve a 300 person party, talk about responsibility. At first I was totally freaking out, but in reality it’s not that bad. It’s all about timing, and pace. The next day I was in charge of a 500 and a 100 person party, needless to say that…

    New Year New Foods

Considering New Years was almost two weeks ago, it’s probably safe to say that people’s resolutions are slowly coming to a halt.  You know, eating healthy 24/7 and going to the gym every day.  If you aren’t one of those people I commend you; congratulations. And even in you are stuck in a rut with your resolutions that’s okay. Since I have just come back from a wicked intense spinning class at the gym I probably shouldn’t eat that chocolate cake that is sitting on the counter, but I’m reallllly craving chocolate at the moment. My handy dandy Pinterest led me to a guilt free chocolate donut recipe that I…

Getting The Job, That Wasn’t My Dream Job

With much hard work and some summer classes I became eligible to graduate early. I figured I would get a leg up on my competition; the swarm of college students all fighting for the same thing… a job. With the hope of paying off those dreadful high interest loans. I started the job hunt in early October. Daily I was scoping out the Boston Chef website as well as may other job hunter outlets. My resume was up to date; my cover letters were tweaked to make sure each hiring manager knew why I should be their next employee. I would check my e-mail daily, no hourly, lets be real,…
