Matcha Ice Cream
I had some matcha in the cupboard left from some house guests and I decided to use it up! Why not make some matcha ice-cream. For those of you who are unfamiliar with matcha, it is a green tea powder. I also decided to pair this ice-cream with crystallized ginger. I was never really a fan of ginger, but I gained an appreciation for it this past summer. I love the spiciness of it as well as its potency, and hey its healthy for you right… until you add loads of sugar to it, but it’s the thought that counts! Crystalized ginger: The crystallized ginger can be bought in the…

The show playing was called the Kids baking championship. This show features young culinarians competing for their shot at $10,000 as well as a new kitchen, and an excerpt in food network magazine. The show is hosted by Duff Goldman the Ace of Cakes TV star as well as Valerie Bertinelli. The competition starts out with eight young bakers, and it proceeds from there. These young kids possess passion, drive, ambition, creativity, intuition, refined palates ( for their age) and so many other commendable attributes.…

Sugar Cookies are Art Too
I’ve always admired those who can turn a sugar cookie into a piece of art. So yesterday I decided to try my hand at it. My problem is I love art, but not as much as I love the idea of instant gratification; meaning I’m SUPER impatient. With this recipe after you have baked your cookies and cooled them you make your royal icing and your flood icing (watered down royal icing) that will spread onto the cookie to create a nice clean canvas for decorating. Use your regular icing to make a border around your cookie so that your flood icing does not drip onto the sides. Let this harden…

Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding
My mother is notorious for buying extra bread that no one will ever eat and then putting it in the freezer with the hopes that maybe someday someone will use it. And I would have to say that I’m guilty of putting over ripe bananas in the freezer repeatedly saying that eventually I will make banana bread out of them. Guess you could say it runs in the family. With that being said I decided to make an out of the box bread pudding the other day! It was a banana chocolate chip chocolate liquor banana bread, and it was out of this world! Ingredients: 3 eggs 3/4 cups of…

Black Bean Soup
When you have a busy schedule planning meals a head of time seems like the best option. I started making all the vegetables for the week taking into consideration everyone’s likes and dislikes, and my mom was planning out all of the meat options for the week. In the midst of cooking up a storm I stumbled over some black beans and decided to make some black bean soup because it is my father’s absolute favorite! This recipe is so quick and easy, and very flavorful! Ingredients: 1/2 onion diced 1/2 red bell pepper diced 1 small habanero pepper diced 2 oz of butter 2 cans of black beans…

Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies
I have been using the same chocolate chip cookie recipe for years. Maybe seven to be exact. I use the one that is on the back of the Hersey’s chocolate chip bag, but don’t think that’s the magic behind my cookies, I have made many adaptations over the years. I originally started out with semi sweet chips, and then I moved on to milk chocolate. I also used to add a bit of lemon juice with the belief that they made my cookies softer. Today I have decided to take a different reproach. I wanted cookies with more of a brown sugar taste, so I did just that! I substituted…
